Thought of the Day - 1 + 1 = ?

Well after yesterdays drought today i have two:

Firstly is the lightbulb really the sign of innovation that it once was? Should we be idealising a 100 year old device that is so inefficient and rapidly becoming obsolete in the modern day? The question then becomes what should we replace it with; an fluorescent bulb? an LED? Something else?

Secondly my companies new motto is "1 + 1 = 3" as they are merging two SBU's, call me cynical but 1 + 1 rarely equals 2 in business and in most cases it is more like 1.5. So how can you improve the sum; take people out, co-locate sites, something else?
